Green Home Survey Costs

Clear, independent advice with two levels of assessment to suit your home, budget and plans.

Improving the energy efficiency of a home can involve substantial investment. Solar panels, insulation, heat pumps, batteries, new windows, heating controls and other technologies can all play a part — but the right combination and order will be different for every property.

APN Green Homes helps you understand what is worth doing, what should come first and where your money is likely to have the greatest impact.

We offer two levels of Green Home assessment.

Desktop Green Home Assessment £495 + VAT

Our Desktop Green Home Assessment is designed for homeowners who want professional, independent guidance without requiring an initial site visit.

It is available nationwide and is particularly suitable where you can provide good information about your property, including photographs, plans, EPC information and details of your existing heating and energy systems.

What is included?

We review the information available about your home and consider opportunities including:

  • Solar PV

  • Battery storage

  • Heat pumps

  • Insulation

  • Energy-efficient windows and doors

  • Smart heating and controls

  • Solar thermal and hot water

  • EV charging

  • Ventilation and heat recovery

  • Other practical energy-saving improvements

The objective is not simply to produce a list of technologies.

We consider how the different improvements could work together as part of a whole-home strategy, taking account of the property, your likely budget and your future plans.

You receive clear recommendations identifying the improvements we believe deserve further investigation and the order in which they should be considered.

Comprehensive Green Home Survey — From £895 + VAT

For homeowners who want a more detailed assessment, our Comprehensive Green Home Survey includes an on-site inspection of the property.

This enables us to look more closely at the construction and condition of the home, its existing heating and hot-water systems, insulation, windows, roof, orientation, external areas and the practical opportunities for introducing new energy-saving technology.

What do we assess?

Depending upon the property, the survey can consider:

  • Roof suitability for solar panels

  • Solar orientation and potential shading

  • Opportunities for battery storage

  • Existing heating system and heat-pump suitability

  • Radiators and heating distribution

  • Loft, wall and floor insulation

  • Existing windows and glazing

  • Air leakage and draught reduction

  • Hot-water systems

  • Smart heating controls

  • EV charging

  • Mechanical ventilation and heat recovery

  • Air conditioning and low-carbon cooling

  • Planning and Building Regulations considerations

  • Potential grants and funding

  • Practical sequencing of future improvements

Following the survey, we prepare a whole-home improvement plan setting out our recommendations and priorities.

The final fee will depend upon the size, type and complexity of the property.

Which Green Home Survey Do I Need?

The Desktop Green Home Assessment is a good starting point if you primarily want independent advice about your options and can provide sufficient information for us to assess your home remotely.

The Comprehensive Green Home Survey is better suited to homeowners considering substantial investment or several different upgrades and who want the property examined on site before deciding what to do.

For example, if you are considering solar panels, a heat pump, insulation and new windows together, an on-site survey can help establish how those improvements should interact rather than considering each one separately.

Why Have a Green Home Survey Before Getting Quotes?

Going directly to individual installers can result in each company recommending the product or system that they sell.

A solar installer will naturally concentrate on solar.

A heat-pump company will concentrate on heat pumps.

A window company will concentrate on windows.

APN Green Homes takes a different approach.

We look at the home first.

That enables us to consider whether your money might be better spent improving insulation before changing the heating system, whether solar should be combined with battery storage, whether existing radiators are suitable for a heat pump, or whether relatively inexpensive improvements could deliver better value before major expenditure is considered.

A Green Home Plan Built Around Your Property

There is no universal specification for creating a greener home.

A Victorian terrace, a 1930s semi-detached house, a modern detached property and a rural cottage can require completely different solutions.

Your own priorities matter too.

One homeowner may want to reduce energy bills.

Another may be preparing for an electric vehicle.

Another may want to remove gas from their home.

Another may be carrying out a major refurbishment and wants to incorporate energy improvements while the building work is taking place.

Every home is different. Your green home plan should be too.

Our role is to help you create a practical blueprint based around your property, your budget and your future plans.
